i cleaned out my closet. finally.

and got rid of the mismatched socks.

I moved in 2023. My friend Mercy was hanging out with me as I packed up my life. I got rid of more than half of my closet... wow, I had a lot... things I kept but never wore, things I wore that I probably should have gotten rid of sooner, and so many mismatched socks.

She said something to me—jokingly. But it turned out to be something that I couldn't get out of my head.

"what if god had you move because he

just wanted you to clean out your closet?"

We laughed... but over and over I thought about it. And the more I thought about it, the more real it seemed.

Could God really care that much about something so little?

It actually wasn't all that little if I thought about it, it was actually a lot and the mess and overfill of it actually got in the way of my daily life (I'm hinting to something deeper, of course.)

I thought of The Parable of the Talents. I heard God say, "M'Kenzi, you've been faithful to the little. But I've given you more and you've buried it."

It was time for me to really clean out the closet. Make room for something new.  I needed room to grow and build again. To take inventory of my life, run an audit, and see what God had given me and what I needed to do with it... The good thing about getting rid of more than half of your closet is that it really does make room for what actually fits. Who knew?

I'm a hoarder of the past. I hold tight to any memory of comfort and love, out of fear that—that's all I'll ever have.

But I know the Lord is tearing down that lie. There's a reality for me where goodness and mercy will surely follow me.

I guess it starts by cleaning out my closet.
